The Perfect Planet Book

Okay so I know I already posted about a perfect planet project but after we did this project our teacher started a new project, a perfect planet book. And it was actually pretty fun. So we started making ink prints fo these plants and then we glued them onto cardboard to make landscapes. And then we used the perfect planet paragraph, cut them up, and pasted them onto the book and so we made a book I have a couple of photos.

Okay so this is the first “page” as you can see we also made a little “portal”inside the book.

Here is a picture inside of the “portal”

And here is a picture of a little collage I made in the back and added a paragraph to.

so that’s the book hope you enjoyed it.

See you soon✌️, Maddie

Mason, The Master Escape Artist

So with this title I am sure you are all wondering “oh no what has he done this time” and don’t worry it is quite a lot. We can pick up where we left off with him escaping from the backyard. Alright when we got home on Tuesday, April 5 Mason came up and greeted as usual but he didn’t have a collar on and that was strange and then Dad found the collar lying OUTSIDE THE GATES!

Here is a picture.

Next thing we know we’re all freaking out and then we calm down and realize Mason never escaped he just got his collar out and then we figured out that Mason must have tried to open the gate and got his head stuck, like really stuck because his collar came off when he pulled himself free and that day we learned a lesson, always make sure to close the gate.

Goodbye, Maddie

Colonel Terry Virts, NASA Astronaut

So about a month ago Colonel Virts visited our school and talked about his life. Here’s a picture of him.

So he was born in Baltimore, Maryland 1967 and even when he was little he had a fascination with space and wanted to be a astronaut so he decided to test fighter pilots and quickly became promoted.

On the left you can see young Virts building a model of a rocket and on the right Virts is standing next to his plane. A couple years later he was assigned to NASA and was assigned his first mission

as you can see this is him training for it. And on the next slide there was this video of the rocket taking off and the rocket was launched during the night and it looked like the sun was coming out of the earth and for a few moments it turned night into day it was super cool. So when he was up he took a lot of photographs and I picked a few that I thought were really cool.

This was taken during the night and you can see the city lights from space also on the top you can see the northern lights or the Aurora Borealis.

So as you can see this is a picture of a hurricane, I am not sure which one. What is really cool is that you can see the eye (DUN DUN DUNNN)

Also Terry Virts has written a few books I personally have not read them but I have read the description of one and it sounded pretty good. Here is the book.

I would recommend it but you don’t have to read but it is a great book for people who are interested in *The Final Frontier*

Byeeeee, Maddie 😘

*say it in dramatic tone* (also cue another DUN DUN DUNNN)

Stock Market Project

Hey and welcome back so in LA we are reading the book The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin and one of the main characters is obsessed with the stock market and every year our LA teacher starts a project called the Stock Market Project and basically kids team up and we “buy” stocks (it’s fake money and we don’t actually buy them) so we just chose our stocks and how many shares we’re going to buy and then our math teacher helped us create a spreadsheet and also helped us program the sheet.let me show you a picture.

So that’s my sheet and the best part is that every week our teacher holds a contest and whoever has the most money or whoever is the biggest loser gets a piece of candy and for the last 3 weeks we have been in 1st place and at the end of the year the biggest winner and the biggest loser gets prizes and she told us that these prizes were serious. As you can see Chipotle is our main money maker and next is Microsoft but it’s not competition. We also had to create our own company and so in the book the main characters all live in Sunset Towers so we named our stocks, Sunrise Stocks and here is a picture.

As you can see the logo is hand drawn courtesy of my partner, Alice and our stocks are at $2675.91. We chose these stocks because chipotle was doing very well and Microsoft and lululemon was also predicted to do well. So we chose these stocks because we looked up companies predicted to do well or companies that are releasing new products and then we narrowed down the choices and chose how many shares we would buy with a limit of “$20,000” and then we waited a day and the next day we programmed the sheet and started the competition.

This project is turning out to be really fun it is also very easy  to do and can last as long as you want it too it can also be a really easy and fun introduction to the stock market I would highly recommend it.

See you next time✌🏼,Maddie

Chamber Theatre Production

Hi again! Today I am writing about a group of actors came to our school the other day and did 2 performances for us. They were super cool and the plays were The Monkey’s Paw and The Necklace. The actors also did 3 more plays for the 7th and 8th grade but apparently they were too inappropriate for the 5th and 6th grade. P.S. I am still miffed about that🥺but 2 plays were still pretty good 👍. So The Monkey’s Paw is about how a family came across a monkey’s paw and the person who gave it to them that it could grant any three wishes but at a great price however the family did not heed their warnings and payed a great price and in a 2 days a family was ruined by a monkey’s paw. The photo below is from the production and taken by my teacher. The second story is called The Necklace. It is about how a middle class woman was unhappy with the life she had and so she wished for a lifetime of elegance and a few days later she got a night of luxury and had a lifetime of poverty. I really liked how the actors exaggerated a lot of characters and that just made it so much more funny and enjoyable. They also put a lot into it like you could tell they were trying hard to become the character and put on a good show for us. So that’s my review for these super talented actors I really hope you enjoyed it.

so long, 😜👋Maddie

Budget Project

Okay so I know what you’re thinking and I bet it’s stuff like “ugh who wants to hear about a budget project” but this one is really interesting because we were able to choose a job ( I was a Epidemologist ) and you could choose where to live and how you would and we calculated our monthly budget and see if any of us had a deficit and what was really cool was that a lot of us actually enjoyed this project because for most of us it seemed like we were building a life for us or what might happen when we were released to the world and for a lot of children that fascinates us bit you probably don’t want to hear me talking about that. Any way the budget project was pretty’s cool and trust at first I thought oh my gosh it’s going to be so hard and I’m going to fail but actually most of the work was actually done by websites my math teacher assigned us and she made an entire slide show for us and all of us were like done in 3 days but again you probably don’t want to hear me rambling again so I’m going to wrap it up. I would actually recommend this it was fun and highly informative you should try it.

bye  Maddie 🙃

Mason

My newest post will be about my dog Mason

now my dog can be very naughty sometimes and like most dogs he likes to chew things up he also likes to be near us and hates it when we are away so recently he has gone into protesting us being away. The first stage of protesting was escaping from the back yard. Our backyard has a fence around it and 4 gates and Mason found a way to force open the gates and escape from the backyard until we put heavy items against the gates to stop him from escaping. The second stage was clawing open the trash can and jumping up on it and eating all the garbage in there we solved that by installing a lock on the trash can. And the most recent was on Tuesday February 20th I was bringing in 6 oz of Mardi Gras chocolate coins in my backpack and in the middle of the night Mason clawed open my backpack, pulled out the chocolates and proceeded to eat them and their wrappings. Now you’re probably thinking OH NO he has to get his stomach pumped (throw up) but fortunately Mason is 75 pounds and the amount of chocolate he has to eat to be toxic is 20 oz so we did not take have to him in but later that day he threw up three times and pooped twice in the dining room and the vomit and puke was full of foil and then I had to clean it up which was not fun.  (not cool Mason 🤨) But Mason survived the whole ordeal and is totally fine who knows what he might try next? Stay tuned for more funny Mason stories.

Later. 😎 Maddie

The Raleigh Museum of Natural Science

Hi so on this post I am writing about the Raleigh Museum of Natural Science.

so on January 26 the 6th grade of Durham Academy visited the museum for the day and we had a great time there my favorite part was on the third floor there is a giant rotating globe that has buttons on the panel surrounding it and above them were labels saying stuff like mangrove forests and coral reefs and if you pressed those buttons the globe would light up in different colors and what me and my friend did was we tried to press as many buttons as possible and at the end it looked so cool. We also visited the race exhibit and it shed a light on so many horrible things about the history of discrimination of so many different cultures and of how people of white skin color treated them.

as you can see here is one of the many walls at the race exhibit. In the lobby there was a huge skeleton of a blue whale 🐋 on the ceiling. Here is a picture of it.

There was also this cool special exhibition called Challenging the Deep we did not see that but there was a model of the exhibit in the lobby that looked super cool.

And that was our field trip to the Raleigh Museum of Natural Science I would highly recommend it for people who like interactive and realistic exhibits.

Adios 👋 🙂

All pictures were taken by our teachers!

Weaving

Hey, so today I am writing about weaving because during the summer my grandmother was kind enough to show me how to weave. I had always thought weaving was pretty impossible to do and was a little reluctant but once she showed me how to weave I realized that weaving is pretty amazing and surprisingly easy it is the perfect activity for someone who likes activities that are relaxing. So far I have made two weavings the first one I started during the summer and finished it and the second one I made it for my mom as a surprise Christmas present let me show you a picture.

Okay so here is the one I made for my mom.

unfortunately I could not find my first weaving sorry. 😞  I like to think of this when I try new things and remind myself to be open to trying new ideas or activities who knows how much you might like them and I hope you’ll think about this post when trying new things. Bye 👋

This is a picture of one of my projects!

Perfect Planet

Okay so hi 👋 this blog post is exactly what it sounds like I pretty much made up a perfect planet and i’ll tell you why so in LA we are reading this book called The Last Cuentista here is a picture of the cover.

So in the book Halley’s Comet is knocked off course by a solar flare and starts heading straight toward Earth so Petra (Pey-Trah), her family, and a few other selected humans were chosen to board a ship to go to a new planet called Sagan. After we read the book our teacher asked us to create a planet where Petra and her family were going to. Now instead of going to a planet I decided to say they had crash-landed on a planet. The planet is called Thalahassa witch  is the greek word for ocean, I named it that because Thalahassa has no land and only water so when the humans crashed on that planet they used the remains of the ship to modify their bodies to make them more aquatic and to show this I made a diagram and here it is.

I can also show you a picture of Thalahassa that I made.

So that is my planet I hope this post inspired you to make up your own planet with everything that you want on there until next time. 🙋🏼‍♀️
